In Nordicomics Baltic Tour the original initiative expanded from Scandinavia to the Baltic region. In Nordicomics workshops aimed at professionals and active comics enthusiasts, the participants drew comics about and around a chosen city theme, which enabled them to get to know the local culture as well. During the complete tour that took the project to Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, the workshops gathered participants from Finland, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
A Nordicomics exhibition curated specifically for the tour also visited the Baltic capitals. The exhibition included both Nordic and Baltic artists: Emmi Valve (FIN), Joonas Lehtimäki (FIN), Joakim Ojanen (SWE), Hanna Gustavsson (SE), Oskars Pavlovskis (LAT), Martins Zutis (LAT), Esben S. Titland (NOR), Kristoffer Kjølberg (NOR), Rikke Bakman (DEN), Mikkel Sommer (DEN), Kristel Maamägi (EST), Joonas Sildre (EST), Yoshi (LIT) and Akvilė Misevičiūtė (LIT). In addition to the tour countries, the Nordicomics exhibition also visited the 8th International Comics Festival of Budapest, Hungary in May 2012.
Nordicomics Baltic Tour gave birth to a comics anthology, postcard series and a comics originals exhibition. In addition to these concrete results, many valuable connections where born between both individuals and organizations participating in the tour. These new friendships will certainly prove productive in the future.
Nordicomics Baltic Tour was funded by Nordic Culture Point. The Finnish Comics Society acted as the main organizer and collaborated with the Finnish Institute in Estonia, Kuš!komikss and Kitokia Grafika. The project was managed by Mari Ahokoivu and Heidi Salminen on behalf of the Finnish Comics Society.
